Help Your Lawn Get Ready To Be Played On!!
SPRING LAWN CARE
The long winter is about over and it's time again to renew our lawns. Early season lawn care has a big impact on lawns, so start making plans well before maintenance actually starts.
Ø Keep off the lawn in the spring until the ground has dried and is firm to walk on.
Ø Rake up debris, dead grass, leaves, etc.
Ø Aerate the lawn annually in high traffic area.
Ø Apply a premium Weed Man slow release lawn fertilizer. To get your grass green.
Ø Apply grass seed to repair damaged areas or thicken existing lawn.
Here are some easy ways to produce lush, green grass without spending countless weekends doing it!
As conditions allow, start spring lawn care with the removal of debris that has accumulated over the winter. One way to do this is by setting your mower a notch lower than normal to remove that surface debris and any damaged grass. Raking lawns will remove matted accumulations of dead grass, but will do little for thatch problems. True thatch cannot be readily raked out by hand, but requires power equipment. Aerating is the best way to deal with thatch. Remember if you have bare spots (and some of you will), over-seed the area with Kentucky Blue grass.
As you mow your lawn don't throw your clippings in the trash!! They’re valuable fertilizer for your lawn. Use a mulching mower to return the clippings back into the turf as you mow. Super Recycler mowers have special deflectors that produce a clean "just bagged look" even in tall, thick grass. As the weather gets warmer, raise the cutting height of your mower so that you'll be cutting no more than a third of the grass blade at one time. This will produce a healthier lawn because taller grass promotes longer roots that need less water.
